The Blessing and Celebration of New Life for Women

On Monday, October 19th, eighty people gathered at the home of New Life for Women to pray for, experience, and support LESM’s newest ministry.  It was a glorious afternoon which was permeated by the presence of the spirit of God.  The service of blessing was conducted by the Rev. Keith Tonkel of Wells United Methodist Church and the Rev. Molly Wade of St.Philip’s Episcopal Church and LESM.  Lisa Williams, Executive Director of New Life for Women, Board Members of both LESM and New Life, residents, and graduates, community members, and staff members of both ministries were there to give thanks for all of the blessings that we share.
We all know that addiction is an illness that can strike any one: young or old, rich or poor, male or female, white or black. The Celebration was a moving tribute to the gifts of forgiveness, hope, and love that each person discovers at New Life for Women.

New Life for Women
received a great boost in funding by way of our Let's Eat Shrimp for Mississippi fundraiser held this past August.  We raised over $15,000 for the program!

More than 500 people graced the lawn of the Cedars and became quite lively as Mississippi Live! and other performers got them on their feet dancing until sunset.  As always, the shrimp dinner was delicious and the weather was perfect for the occasion.
Thank you to all who volunteered their time and resources to the event - we could not have done it without you!  more

LWR
1/18/2010 - HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS
Lutheran World Relief (LWR) is working with partners on the ground to ensure that the people of Haiti get immediate access to water, food, and shelter. LWR is also committed to the long-term recovery of the people of Haiti. LWR partner Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is working to assess needs and is reporting that damage outside the city of Port-au-Prince is also extensive, making rural communities particularly vulnerable and in grave need of rehabilitation in the near future.

Click the Lutheran World Relief logo above to contribute to help Haiti in their time of crisis.  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match members' gifts to LWR for Haiti response.
